The Variety Show
Sunday 9th March 2008

The Variety Show: Kothufied began in true fashion with a vibrant traditional Sri Lankan dance composed of two varied dance forms of Sri Lanka capturing the theme and the purpose of the evening: unification and celebration of diversity. The show continued with performances of dance consisting of two striking Indian/ Bollywood dances, several delightful vocal and instrumental displays that entertained the audience with both Sri Lankan as well as English performances, and an excellent individual R n B dance performance celebrating the musical tastes of the youth.

A well-rehearsed skit, in the form of news feed following the fantastic lovesick life of a fantastic youth named Chandrababu Naidu had the audience jumping with laughter as its acts visited a most un-holy wedding, a memorable parody to a legendary scene from The Matrix, and finally to several touching performances at ‘Talent’s Got Sri Lanka’ a fictional talent show. Following the ceremonial vote of thanks by the Sri Lankan Society President, everyone proceeded to buffet dinner consisting of delicious kothu, and fried rice with a variation of curry suitable for both vegetarians and otherwise. The night was an overwhelming success, whereby all participants as well as the audience went home highly entertained: the night truly was a feast for all senses.
