TIMBALAND ft M.I.A COME AROUND When M.I.A aka Mathangi Arulpragasam first appeared on the scene, I received a phone call from an industry contact screaming, ‘there’s a Tamil girl on the box and she’s singing on an elephant.’ Well he was talking about the video ‘Sunshowers’ which was the teaser track from her debut album ‘Arular.’ Since then I’ve been following her career carefully and can truly say I’m a devoted fan, even though my friends don’t approve.
With a huge global fanbase, hits in the millions on her MySpace page and artistes like Nelly Furtado copying her dance moves (in Nelly’s own words), she’s making a name for herself in the music industry in a big way. Her vocals/rap were featured on ‘Bad man’ a track by Missy Elliot featuring Vibez Kartel which came out in early 2005. Early 2007 saw the release of ‘Bird flu’, not the disease but something just as infectious, Gaana music straight from the bustling side streets of Chennai (their very own Hip Hop). Her very latest achievement will be a track by Timbaland himself, with what sounds like trademark Timberland beats laid over Adangkaka from Anniyan (Tamil movie), please correct me if I’m wrong.
