SLT-UNI, a network of Sri Lankan & Tamil university societies in the United Kingdom hosted their annual OPAL Ball this year at the Thistle hotel in Marble Arch on Saturday 15th March 2008. Awards were presented to the runners up and winners of the sport's league and also to the winners of the newly featured University awards. The winners of the University awards were chosen by a combination of voters who had emailed into the SL2UK website and a panel of judges.
The judges will like to give a special mention to QMW Tamil society for raising over £10,000 for charity from their events including the Demise Show in 2008. They also look forward to the participation of Oxford Sri Lankan society, Southampton Tamil society, Birmingham Sri Lankan society and Cambridge Sri Lankan society in next year’s event. This is the first year of the awards and hopefully the beginning of something special.
