IMPERIAL COLLEGE SRI LANKAN SOCIETY
Sapphire 2007
The Annual Charity Ball
Saturday 24th February 2007
Imperial College Sri Lankan society hosted their annual Sapphire charity ball on Saturday 24th February in South Kensington, London. A Marquee was erected on the University grounds to house the 1000 plus guests who attended the event. Sponsored by Brandix, a company based in Sri Lanka who manufactures garments for the UK market, they were able to fly over Sunil Perera and the Gypsies to perform at the event.
A little lesson for all those who have never heard of the Gypsies, they are simply the best Baila band in the world who have been entertaining Sri Lankans and their friends for over thirty years. As with any party featuring the Gypsies, the crowd were on the floor non-stop dancing the night away, only to stop to breathe or for speeches by members of the imperial SL soc committee. Dj’s Chippie and BBC Radio1’s DJ Nihal hosted the after party. Proceeds from Sapphire 2007 will be donated to Maharagama Cancer Hospital, Sri Lanka’s only national cancer hospital.
