Refreshingly SRI LANKA TRAFALGAR SQUARE : LONDON Saturday 17th June 2006
As England’s cricketers battled with the Sri Lankan team, at the One-Day International at Lords, Sri Lankan Sinhala culture & entertainment was on display at Trafalgar Square in a huge open air party. Refreshingly Sri Lanka is a ten day festival to boost tourism between the UK & SL. The festival kicked of in true style with an open air party hosted by DJ Nihal of BBC Radio 1 & Russel Amerasekara from the TV Travel show, ‘Wish You Were Here.’
The musical & visual extravaganza included dancers, fire eaters, drummers and artistes including BNS, Ashanthi and Randhir. The surrounding area stood stalls demonstrating arts & crafts to food prepared by Mount Lavania Hotel’s chefs.
The festival continues over the next few days with other smaller events including the Serendib Trade Exhibition at the New Connaught Rooms, a food festival at the Royal Garden Hotel on Kensington High Street and a film festival at the Electric Cinema on Portobello Road.
