MICHAEL RUBERU
Michael Ruberu is an exceptionally talented artist who has been composing and performing his own music from the age of 18. While in high school, Michael realised his natural potential for guitar and voice. All his songs are original compositions and have often been compared to artists like Tracy Chapman, John Mayer, Jack Johnson and James Traylor. In short, Michael's melodic tunes are a perfect blend of acoustic guitar and soothing lyrics. As a person, he is sincere and kind, following his heart in everything he does. Sri Lankan by heritage, Michael spent his formative years traveling between Canada, USA and Sri Lanka, now presently studying in India.
Upon your first encounter with Michael's music you will quickly estimate that the tune is catchy...And then come the words. Suddenly the listener is on a journey. ''So many people have commented on my lyrics. It is nice that people find meaning in the same things that I do.'' Michael tells a story, ''I once played one of my numbers to a packed room. The particular song is called 'The Line'. After the performance, one young lady approached me with tears in her eyes...She wanted to know how I 'knew'. At first a little dumbfounded, I immediately realised we had made a deep connection. I explained that the song was based on my own personal experiences...And to not be suprised because we are all human.
''Michael also feels strongly about the quality of music he writes. ''I write songs at all times of the day and night. I know the tune is good if it stays in my head and doesn't leave. What is memorable for me will be memorable for others. Music has always been my escape from hardship...If it is going to serve the same purpose for others, it had better sound nice.'' Michael currently studies in Manipal, Karnataka in India, where he is studying medicine at Kasturba Medical College. When asked if he will ever curtail his musical interests for his professional life he answered, ''The music is in me, so unless you can find a way to take it out, I will eventually be married to both a girl and a guitar.''
