RANIDU, KRISHAN & IRAJ LIVE @ THE LANKAN LOUNGE
On Saturday 15th July 2006, London town witnessed the launch of a historic new club event with one sole purpose. To provide a regular platform for artists of Lankan origin to perform and be heard. The venue was the very stylish & spacious Bar 38 in Aldgate, walking distance from the Thames, Tower of London & Tower Bridge. For the launch night, the audience at the Lankan Lounge witnessed Ranidu Lankage & Krishan Maheson perform hits from their individual albums, Iraj’s album, as well as some unreleased material. Accompanying them on stage was Sri Ram, Sarjun, Mike & Iraj. The organisers were pleasantly surprised to find that Iraj had flown into London to perform on this historic night.

This was the first time the artists have performed together in Europe and the scale of this event was reflected by the fact that some members of the audience travelled in from as far as Germany for the event. The venue was packed with over 450 people in attendance, and it was amazing to hear the crowd sing along to songs like Ahankara Nagare, Mata Aloke & J Town Story.

BBC Radio1’s DJ Nihal accompanied the artists on stage to drop a little freestyle, before taking over the decks to spin some of his favourite dancefloor anthems. Lankan Lounge’s resident DJ crew Soul Stylus which includes DJ Chippie and Sterling ended the night with some urban flava’s accompanied by some traditional Lankan beats.
