Music unites Sri Lankans and raises thousands for children

The UK Sri Lankan Community united to raise 10,000 pounds for Helplanka’s children’s mobile library at a star studded musical extravaganza to mark National Day in London. The event, attended by 1000 young professionals and organised by Helplanka, was sponsored by Sri Lankan Airlines.

Internationally acclaimed mega stars Bathiya and Santhush who are Helplanka’s patrons were the main stars supported by Iraj, Ranidu, Ashanthi, Randir, Dushyanth, Killer Bee and Yauwana. The climax of the event was a special Baila rendition by B and S which really wowed the crowds!

Sam Goonetillake, Chief Executive of Helplanka commenting on the success of the event said “ I am very proud to say that we have raised a huge amount of money towards the mobile library and it was fantastic to see so many Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and British people enjoying music and committed to helping disadvantaged children in Sri Lanka I want to say thank you to everyone who helped and attended Independanz - now we really can make a significant difference in our long term work in Sri Lanka.”
