FESTIVAL OF CRICKET 2006 SHENLEY CRICKET GROUNDS SUNDAY 9TH JULY
One of the largest gatherings of the UK Sri Lankan community, the Festival of Cricket is in its 18th year now and attracts an annual crowd of over 5,000 people. The day long event was organised by the Old Boys Association of Southern Sri Lanka, to raise funds for charity as well as establishing and maintaining relationships amongst the other Sri Lankan OBAs participating. The day featured live music, tantalising cuisine (especially the kotthu rotti...fantastic choice of caterers), a beer tent (very popular as you could imagine), trade & charity stalls, great (but oddly temperamental) weather on the day and obviously cricket. Although many of the visitors attend the event to meet up with old friends and dance along to the sounds of the live band, the main highlight of day shouldn't be forgotten. The winners of the cricket finals were two years running champs St Peter's college. Well done to the boys for holding the title.
If your thirst for cricket hasn't been quenched and you require another dose of Lankan cricket, look out for the All Saints Quadrangular Cricket Tournament at Alexanda Park Cricket Club on 30th July. Check the upcoming section for more information.
