Two leading SL Associations in the UK raise funds for Tsunami Victims

The Association of Professional Sri Lankans in the UK ("APSL") with its UK government approved Charity, Vision Lanka joined hands with Hela Sarana, also a UK government approved Charity to raise funds for their respective "Homes for Tsunami Victims" Projects by organising a traditional "Peduru Party" on Saturday 27th November in Harrow, London.



The event, which was attended by almost 200 Sri Lankans was held at the Harrow Zoom Leisure Centre Hall, featured a group of Sri Lankan musical artistes from within the UK. Many golden oldies, songs from Nanda Malini, Victor Ratnayake, W. D. Amaradeva, Milton Mallawaratchchi, H. R. Jothipala, and Ananda Samarakoon ewere sung and the audience enjoyed these to their utmost.

Vision Lanka Charity Chairman, Dr Marc Ranjith Dissanayake made the Welcome Address, and thanked the audience for attending despite adverse weather conditions. He promised them all a great evening filled with music, songs and good food, all for a worthy cause. Indeed he was right, as the music was lively and the songs brought back nostalgic memories of the good old days!



APSL President, Chartered Engineer, Mr Leslie Gunaratne made a Presentation on APSL activities in the UK which included the Tsunami Homes Project; Professional presentations in the UK and in Sri Lanka on a number of interesting topics such as Solar Power, generation of electricity from household garbage; Quality Assurance and Standards in businesses; Dual Citizenship (SL & UK).

Hela Sarana made a video Presentation on the Homes built so far,  with Mrs Mala Polpitiya of Hela Sarana as the Compere during the whole evening.



Solicitor and Attorney-at-Law, Mr Rohan de Alwis, the General Secretary of APSL proposed the Vote of Thanks in both Sinhala and English, especially to the UK based Sri Lankan Musicians for not forgetting their homeland and its music, and to the entire audience for their presence and worthy financial contribution to help those affected by the Tsunami.
