BART & LONDON ASIAN SHOW
BLAS 2006

Friday 3rd March

Brrrr...Braving the Forum Chill

Did you know...That there are 6 million cat owners in London. Actually Nargiss we didn't but one thing was clear from this week's episode of BBC2's killer show The Apprentice. Jo is DEFINITELY emotionally unstable.

Kat B (Choice FM) doing his bit - a great entertainer

So...Did you know...That BLAS is the 2nd largest Asian Show in London (behind GKT for those in the dark)...Probably the UK and possibly the world. Nah - Neither did we.

Our usual reviewer wasn't able to make it to the BLAS show so we're gonna free-style it...BLAS IS the 2nd largest Asian Show in London but Google it...You get nothing. Seriously - try it now. So why all the secrecy...The veils. Get this people - they're trying to hide this from you. BLAS is probably one of the best, if not THE best Show on the circuit. And that's a fact Jack.

Kick off for BLAS 2006 was 8pm. In true Asian fashion though we only really got started about 8.30pm.....The Show also finished a good 45-50mins behind schedule. We barely got the last train back home. One thing though....Those 3hrs were just straight up - Off the hook. That means really good for anyone that never went to school in Harrow. Init.

The BLAS Show was an extravaganza. The Committee took the Forum in Kentish Town, packed it out with 900+ people and then hit the Turbo button. The Show opened in explosive fashion with a Dance act sponsored by Adidas. In all fairness...Puma are making a huge comeback this year (check out their Sartori trainers) but it's OK Adidas. Like the BLAS Show you're still cool.

Big props to the chereographer Kushal Mehta who did a great job of mixing in various different styles of grime, hip hop and oriental martial arts to really bring the Forum alive. There were a lot of amazing performances and we had to admit, we haven't been to a Show where there were so many 'beautiful' people. Don't you know darling. The performers including the inimitable Kat B were definitely easy on the eyes.

The 'Saris' showpiece (see pic below) summed up the whole feel for the Show...'Elegance'. Girls...Every single one of you. Looked amazing.

What was certainly evident from BLAS (when compared to some of the other Asian Shows) was that the number of quality acts was extremely high. Another plus was that everything was kept moving along at a very rapid pace always leaving the audience wanting more. The choreographers (Kushal, Maya Patel, Karan Sampat, Debjani Talukder, Archana Radhakrishnan, Guru Prakash Yadagudde - he's THAT good he's a Guru, Vanisha Patel, Bansri Aghera, Nishi Kapur, Neha Singh, , Angela Kaushal, Sheetal Trivedi, Dr Rachael Fung, and Nabila Laskar), a job well done to you all for bringing us so many great acts. Hope we didn't miss anyone out.

Our fave Act of the night and definitely a crowd favourite was the 'Untouchables' (see pic below)...The guys looked positively slick in their 1920's Chicago streetwear and there were a lot of girls in the crowd with a little twinkle in their eye. Girls you know what we mean...A big shout out to the 'Let there be sound' boys Act because they ripped it up with the guitar riffs...Oh - and Tim T's bro - congrats on finishing up your exams mate.

In all this drama, it was easy to forget what a great job Choice FM DJ Kat B did on the day. He gotta lotta love from the crowd with the type of reception we've only seen evoked by Radio 1 DJ Nihal...Props to the big guy...Not only did he keep us well and truly entertained (free-styling even better than we are right now when there were technical hitches) - but he bought a hell of a lot of people in the audience some really nice McDonalds grub. Seriously - Props to you bro. SL2UK.com are new fans of your radio show.

The best news of all...A tremendous amount of money was raised for a worthy cause - the British Heart Foundation. A big thanks to the headline sponsor for the evening Lycatel.
